Ned's Folly is a place for honest reflection on creative failure. These terms keep the conversation constructive, the stories truthful, and the community safe for everyone willing to admit a mistake.
Ned's Folly publishes long-form essays on historical and personal failures, hosts reader-submitted folly confessions, curates a bookshop of titles on failure and innovation, and runs a monthly virtual salon. Access to essays and the confession archive is free. The salon and certain archived materials may require registration, which we will describe clearly before you sign up.
When you submit a folly confession or join a salon discussion, you agree to share only what is true to your knowledge. Do not post confidential information about employers, clients, or other people without permission. Harassment, hate speech, and deliberate misinformation are grounds for immediate removal. You are responsible for the content you contribute and for keeping your account credentials private.
We work to keep essays factually accurate and clearly labeled when they include interpretation or speculation. We moderate submissions to prevent harmful content, but we cannot guarantee that every reader submission is independently verified. The essays and discussions are offered for reflection and education, not as professional engineering, legal, or psychological advice. You should not make significant life or career decisions solely on the basis of material found here.
Original essays and editorial content on Ned's Folly are protected by copyright. You may quote brief passages with attribution and a link back to the source. Reader submissions remain the property of their authors, but by posting you grant us a limited license to display and distribute them on this site and in salon materials. You may request removal of your submission at any time by contacting us.
Ned's Folly is provided as a publication and community space. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the site, reliance on its content, or participation in community features. This includes any emotional distress from reading about past disasters, which we hope will be cathartic rather than harmful, but which we cannot fully control.
We may suspend or terminate access to community features if you violate these terms. We may also update these terms as the site evolves; significant changes will be announced on the homepage at least two weeks before they take effect. Continued use after that period means you accept the revised terms. If you disagree with any change, you may stop using the site and request deletion of your account.
